Ford Motor Company Australia has set a September on-sale date for its new-generation Everest large SUV, which will start at $49,190 plus on-road costs for the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive Ambiente five-seater.

All-wheel-drive versions will start at $54,190, while opting for a third row commands a $1000 premium in both drivetrain configurations.

The Ambiente grade is exclusively powered by a 143kW/470Nm 3.2-litre turbocharged five-cylinder diesel engine, which is mated with a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission as standard.

For the mid-spec Trend and higher, a second engine offering will be available, pulled directly from the recently-launched Ford Ranger Raptor performance pick-up.

The engine in question, a 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel is matched with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and will be available from $56,190 with the base rear-drive Trend.

Topping the Everest range is the Titanium, which features the four-cylinder four-wheel-drive powertrain with a price-tag of $73,990 including luxury car tax, $1000 cheaper than the outgoing 3.2-litre-powered flagship.

Those grades will also feature auto emergency braking (AEB) with vehicle and pedestrian detection, as well as trailer sway control and hill start assist that will be equipped range-wide.

New standard equipment on the Ambiente includes an updated front grille, bumper and fascia, halogen projector headlights (with manual levelling) and daytime running lights, power-adjustable mirrors, keyless entry, and a laminated acoustic windscreen.

On the inside, the Ambiente gains push-button start/stop, a refreshed cabin design, 10-speaker sound system with DAB+ digital radio and satellite navigation.

The mid-spec Trend gains a hands-free power liftgate, leather-accented seat trim, eight-way power driver's seat and a leather-trimmed gear shifter.

Debuting on the Titanium is newly-designed 20-inch alloy wheels with 265/50 tyres, a 3100kg rated towbar and a leather-trimmed handbrake.
