The first ever Fisker electric SUV has been revealed, with the new high-riding model set to bear the Fisker Ocean name when it launches globally in 2020, before reaching production in late 2021.

While it bears concept car looks, the Fisker Ocean SUV you see in these pictures is in fact the real deal, with the brand stating that it has "skipped the standard automotive process of making a show car" - instead, it will make its full-scale debut on January 4, 2020.

The new model is said to use an 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack that will help it run for up to 300 miles (482km) - but despite that, the brand claims the new model will be "exciting, yet affordable", and that it will drive the "global movement toward mass electrification".

The new model measures up at 4640mm long, which means it's considerably shorter than the likes of the Audi e-tron (4901mm), Mercedes EQC (4761mm) and Tesla Model X (5036mm). In fact, if you need to get an idea of how big the Fisker Ocean is, you ought to consider the Lexus NX, which is exactly the same length (4640mm).

The company is making some big claims about the Fisker Ocean - stating that it is the world's most sustainable vehicle.

Its construction incorporates a full length solar roof the brand claims will give customers 1000 free miles (1609km) just from sitting outside, while the interior has recycled carpets made of waste fishing nets, a vegan interior (now cowhides here), and recycled rubber - taken from waste parts during production of tyres - will be used, too. The seat fabric will be made from recycled t-shirts, plastics and bottles.

Despite offering somewhat traditional SUV proportions, Fisker says it has aimed for optimised aerodynamic efficiency in the design, with "a fixed hood that avoids costly sealing and latches, as well as saves weight". What's under the bonnet? "new age electronics and the air conditioning unit", according to the brand, and it claims there has been a benefit when it comes to interior space, too.

Chairman and CEO, Henrik Fisker, claims this car represents a hassle-free, fun and easy solution for customers looking to buy an electric SUV.

"For the past two years, we have been working quietly on an emotionally appealing and affordable luxury electric vehicle that will serve as a flagship for driving positive global change – from the most sustainable materials possible across the supply chain to practicality that will change the perception of what an EV can be," said Mr Fisker.

"The Fisker Ocean features dramatic sculpture – with a wide stance and a luxurious SUV silhouette. I wanted to combine maximum usability with an unprecedented driving experience. The interior is spacious and extremely modern, bringing a luxury feel and timelessness that has never been seen in a vehicle before," he said.

The brand will also debut a lease system that will be offered through a smartphone app, and according to the brand there will be no long-term commitment required by users.

The Fisker Ocean is set to make its Australian debut in 2022.
