Now living on the Gold Coast, Bayliss has been testing a Ducati 1198 race bike over two days this week in Italy. Last year the 41-year-old teamed up with dean Fiore in a Commodore for an assault on the Phillip Island and Bathurst endurance rounds of the V8 Supercars. Bayliss didn't get a drive at the Island and they failed to finish at Bathurst.
But he has told British Motorcycle News magazine he hopes to return next year for a full season of World Superbikes.
"You're a long time retired," he told MCN. "I'm saying I could come back and were going to have to see. It would make sense to come back with Ducati that's for sure."
Bayliss was World Superbike champion in 2001, '06 and '08 with 52 race wins from 152 starts, 94 podiums 94 and 26 pole positions. He then moved to MotoGP where he had one win and five podiums.
