With only 333 being built and with it selling for about $400,000 overseas -- which would put it above $500,000 by the time you added in Australian taxes and duties – it’s both out of our reach and well out of our price bracket.

The R8 GT carries a higher-powered version of Audi’s 386kW 5.2-litre V10 – revised from the Lamborghini LP560-4 -- with the output raised to 412kW, housed in a lighter weight body that has been trimmed by using aluminium body panels and thinner glass.

Visual clues to the difference include skirtlets on the front bumper and a rear wing. And of course a GT badge.
