Upping the load

My AU III six-cylinder manual Falcon ute is in excellent condition and I want to keep it, but on occasions I need to tow a trailer weighing around 1500 kg and it is only rated to tow 1200 kg. Is this a problem given that it would only be done three to four times a year? If so, what can I do to rectify the situation?

Ford offered an option on the AU ute that would increase its towing capacity to 1600 kg; there were other dealer-fit options that would increase it to 2300 kg, so check with your local dealer to see if they could retrofit either option. Otherwise see a towing specialist, such as a Hayman-Reese dealer for tow packs they could fit.
