Uneasy idling

LATELY my 1991 Nissan Patrol 4.2-litre won't idle on petrol or LPG. Mechanics haven't been able to fix it. One changed the carburettor, with little success. It now idles on LPG, but cuts out on petrol unless I hold down the accelerator. I want a new carburettor, but Nissan no longer sells them.

IT SOUNDS as though it's running too lean at idle. Have the carburettor adjusted to the correct idle setting and check for a vacuum leak, because that can cause this sort of instability. I would have an experienced LPG mechanic check the system for you.
