MY DEALER gave up trying to fix the rattle in my BA Falcon's brakes. With reference to warped discs in Falcons, my vehicle travelled about 80,000km before the problem arose. Before retiring, I drove company Commodores for about 100,000km a year. Warped discs were a big problem. We had discs machined once and after that replaced with new units, but to no avail. On all new vehicles, we would replace discs with a grooved aftermarket disc after the original became warped.
IT IS common for mechanics to machine the discs about 50,000km, then replace them at 80,000km or so. There was a time when the drums or discs on a car would last the life of the car, but it seems discs have become consumables like pads. Aftermarket disc rotors may be a way around it. They tend to be of a higher quality, but I have no first-hand knowledge of their service life.
