Territory brake problems

I HAVE just put my 2004 AWD Territory in for a service with my Ford dealer. Apart from doing the brake-hose replacement I was told the front lower ball joints were worn and needed to be replaced at a cost of about $700. I was also told the steering fluid needed to be flushed and replaced because it was burnt, and the brake system had to be flushed and refilled. The total cost of the service came to $1500. A ``noisy'' front end was brought to their attention in mid-2005 and again in 2006, and I was told this was related to the braking set-up. The vehicle has done less than 18,000km and is always serviced by Ford.

I THINK you should query it. Worn ball joints are not only expensive to replace -- and it seems that is part and parcel of owning a Territory - they can be dangerous if they fail, as they are prone to do. That yours need replacing at 18,000km is beyond my comprehension. Ford should replace them at no cost to you.
