I have used Valvoline 15w-40 Armour oil in my cars for years, and supply it to me dealer to use whenever he services my 2007 Toyota Corolla, but when I queried why they charge me for oil after I supply it for them, I was told that as I am not using the recommended oil, Castrol 10w-30, that they will wipe my warranty if a faults develops. I have used Valvoline oil for 40-odd years with no problems, so how much different is there between what I use and what they recommend? They say with the VVTi engine needs the thinner oil for the valve train.
You are in a tricky situation, the oil you use is a good quality brand and shouldn't cause any problem, but I would follow the dealer's advice and switch to a 10w-30 grade oil. I'm sure you'll find Valvoline make one, so you can stick to the brand you like and trust.
