My 2002 turbo-diesel Landrover Discovery Series 2 has 130,000 km on the clock and I plan to do a major service on it, but I'm not sure if it has a timing belt or not, and if it does, is it overdue for replacement. I am considering installing a DP Powerchip to improve the performance. The manufacturer claims a 30 hp increase and better fuel economy, but at $1500 it is a significant outlay for me. Are you aware of the 'track record' of such power chips?
The TD5 five-cylinder diesel fitted from 1999 has a timing chain and there's no servicing involved. Generally, using a chip works well without causing any problems with reliability.
