Toyota LandCruiser: hopping before warming up

I HAVE a series 100 manual LandCruiser that has done 160,000km. For the past 30,000 it has been difficult to get first and reverse gears. While driving there are no problems with gear changes. Also, in cold weather the car hops until the engine warms up. My service dealer says the problems would be fixed by replacing the clutch.

I WOULDN'T expect the hopping problem to be fixed by replacing the clutch, but it may fix the problem with first and reverse gears. It sounds as if the clutch is not fully disengaging, which may mean it is worn. If you haven't replaced the clutch before, it could be due for replacement and I would take the advice you have been given.
