Toyota Kluger 2013: Clunk in the front steering

I am on my third Toyota Kluger and until now I could not fault them, but my latest Kluger has a clunk in the front steering or suspension that is noticeable through the steering column when turning at low speeds or turning over bumps. They could not find anything at first, but at the last service, at 40,000km, they observed the clunking, but then stated that it is a problem with the car and that Toyota does not have a fix for it as yet. They stated they have tried replacing every item in the front-end and have not been able to get rid of it. The clunking has progressively got worse and is now noticeable every time you turn or go over bumps and it is very unnerving to drive. Where to now to get this problem fixed?

Toyota is aware of the problem and issued an alert to dealers early this year. The clunking is coming from the intermediate steering shaft sliding spline, which is binding and releasing as the shaft turns. While they develop a long term fix they recommended to dealers that they replace the shaft, grease the steering shaft universal joints, grease the spline, and/or remove the shaft and work it up and down to free up the spline. They added that it is not a safety issue that is likely to cause a steering failure. Go back to your dealer and ask for an update on the company's efforts to find a long-term solution.
