Kia Sportage 2013: Diesel engine dying

I was very interested to read the report from Tim Reeve regarding his Kia Sportage diesel engine intermittently dying under acceleration. I also bought a Kia Sportage Platinum Diesel in January 2013, which was to be my last car. I really like it and pamper her, expecting her to last as long as my previous 1981 Holden WB van. I have only travelled 6000km to date, but have also been caught out a number of times accelerating out of intersections, only to have the engine die on me, mid-intersection, on most occasions. The engine does not stall completely, but the car loses all power totally, and after feverishly pumping the accelerator a number of times, it eventually surges out of the intersection. Many approaching vehicles must be under the impression I am playing "chicken" with them! They are not hesitant in sounding their horn, which I acknowledge with an apologetic wave, knowing full well they would not understand my embarrassing circumstances. This has occurred when the engine is either hot or cold, but the majority is when the engine is cold. I can assure you each time that this occurs it leaves me with a very nasty taste in my mouth, not to mention the nasty effect it has on my heart as I observe the cars approaching me in the intersection at a very fast pace. I have managed to survive thus far, hoping these nasty experiences would depart as the car was run in. I intended to mention it at my next service in January 2014, but from your article it appears I am not the only one experiencing this trauma, so maybe I can expect also to be brushed off by Kia as well! Most times the car performs well at intersections, but the problem is definitely intermittent, and you never know when she is going to stand you up. It appears this may not be an isolated experience with the diesel Sportage, and it would be interesting to know how many others have had this trauma.

You can read elsewhere that Kia checked Tim Reeve's car and reported back to us that there was nothing wrong with it, that the problem Tim was experiencing was a result of his driving style. We will pass on your complaint to Kia and ask them to check you car out.
