A QUERY you recently answered on EF and EL Falcon door-lock problems was relevant to a problem I have experienced with my EF since it was 12 months old. Your advice was to go direct to Ford, and that is what I did in January. I received a phone call very promptly after my letter was received by Ford. The company's reaction was less than satisfactory and the answer to my assertion they had released a service memo regarding the door-lock fault was ``rubbish''. The person who contacted me had an arsenal of answers to my questions and made it most clear that because the car was eight years old, Ford's responsibility was absolved. I have written to Ford again, directing my letter to Tom Gorman personally, pointing out your story. So far I have heard nothing.
THERE is no easy answer. Ford's responsibility expired when the warranty ran out, so it's a matter of negotiation. I think you have a good case against Ford. The door-lock problem was well known at the time and should have been traced and fixed when you first experienced it. It would help if you have a record of having reported it to your dealer at the time, but even without that you have a case.
