When my wife's two-year-old Holden Astra went in for a 30,000 km service I was surprised that additional work (cleaning fuel injectors and flushing the brake lines) was recommended. Neither of these items was mentioned in the service manual and when we queried the necessity of the work the service receptionist told us that "they" recommend these additional maintenance items. When questioned further, it was not clear who "they" were, the dealer or Holden. So, are these additional items necessary, or just a way of value adding to the service cost?
Almost certainly they were “recommended” by the dealer and not Holden, and furthermore they are what is known in the trade as “upselling”. They are not necessary.
