My wife was taking off in our 2009 Ford G6E and suddenly loud noises came from underneath the car. My mechanic found it was a snapped tailshaft. In the recent past I have complained to Ford about a noise coming from underneath, but was told it was common and nothing to worry about. Now the car has done 36,000 km and is just out of warranty. I have just towed it back to the dealer and mentioned the past history to them, will keep you posted on answers they give me.
A snapped tailshaft is very unusual these days, and suggests a material fault in your shaft. I would expect that Ford would replace the shaft almost without question. We'd certainly like to hear more.
