    Ford Falcon: Intermittent stalling

    Out of the blue late last year my 2007 Ford Falcon BF Mark II began giving me an 'Engine Crank-up Problem' first thing in the morning. The engine would fire up and then immediately shut down just like I had turned the key off, but on the second attempt it would start, run a bit rough for a few seconds and very smelly out of the exhaust, and I would then drive away and the engine would then run as smooth as a Swiss watch all day until I had to restart the engine. My dealer performed an overnight fuel pressure test, they swapped the fuel rail, the injectors, they tried another fuel pump and a new fuel filter, but without solving the problem. They have had my car six times, and have spent 20 hours on it, but they tell me they can't help me. You can understand how I feel when an Australian Ford dealership admits to a Ford customer that they can't fix a Ford vehicle. I am desperate, what can I do?

    I'd take it to another mechanic, one who is prepared to dig deeper than the Ford dealer was. Check the electronics, not just the computer, but also the various engine sensors that provide the computer with its input. In particular I would be checking the oxygen sensors in the exhaust.
