Finding independent mechanics

...

You often suggest using an independent mechanic to do work on cars where the dealer charges are excessive, but how can I find these independent mechanics? I have tried the Yellow Pages online and done a Google search, but all it comes up with are non-dealer servicing companies that seem to do a range of brands. I drive an Audi and live in inner Brisbane.

I was able to come up with a long list of mechanics claiming to specialize in European brands, including Audi, simply by searching online. That's a start, with that in hand you need to go around and talk to them to get a feel for their capability. Talking to other owners who use them can tell you a lot about them as well.
