Ford Falcon: Fading dash

The top of the dash on my son's 2007 Falcon XR6 is fading. My son is in the RAAF and on duty interstate, but he was brought the problem to the attention of the dealer just prior to the warranty running out, and they suggested buying a dash mat to fix the problem? Not happy with that he contacted Ford directly who sent him back to the dealer and the dealer is now saying the use of Armour All on the dash has damaged it. He has contacted the makers of Armour All and they have assured him that the product will not damage the plastic on the dash and that over-use leaves a white haze that can be removed with cloudy ammonia and water. It seems to be a fault with the dash and Ford does not want to help in any way. They did say that to replace the dash would cost approx. $2700. To me it seems outrageous that they have done nothing to repair his car under the 'new car' warranty, he will loose a considerable amount in resale. Is this a common problem with Fords of that era?

Fading usually happens when plasticizers migrate out of the plastic, and is accelerated when the car is exposed to the sun for long periods of time, but we haven't received any other reports of the dash fading on Falcons. Make sure the car is parked out of the sun when your son is away, that was the fading should be reduced, and using a product like Armor All should help maintain the colour in the dash.
