WE HAVE also been very lucky while driving our Ford Territory. The first time the left front brake hose split we were travelling down a steep decline. Halfway down I applied the brakes only to discover the pedal went to the floor and there was no braking. I grabbed the handbrake and with great difficulty brought the car to a halt. You shouldn't be fooled into believing the braking system is designed to maintain either front or rear brakes should one hose split. Believe me, we had total brake failure. We were lucky not to have nose-dived over a steep embankment. The right front brake hose split at the end of a 700km trip when we were parking our caravan. I had just uncoupled and pulled the vehicle away from the van when the road became covered in brake fluid and there were no brakes. Luckily there was no need to stop in a hurry. These hoses were repaired under warranty. We are now concerned the rear hoses are about to fail, but our dealer says they are OK. Can we believe him? Ford should be embarrassed by the problems with these vehicles and recall them for replacement of all hoses, which appear to be from a bad batch.

I'D LIKE to say you can believe the dealer, but I'd be wanting to replace the brake hoses. It's better to be safe than sorry.
