HOW lucky some people are to have had only one broken hose fail in a Ford Territory. In April 2007 (54,000km), my right-hand front hose burst. The pedal went straight to the floor when I was doing less than 30km/h. With no other traffic around, the vehicle came to an ungraceful stop some way up the road. A year ago (71,000km) the left-hand front brake hose failed. Again I was going slowly and again I was lucky to stop without hitting anything. Both times Ford arranged for towing and repairs without question, but this is more than serious. One day someone will be doing 100km/h and we will read reports of a ``tragic accident'' that has taken a life.
IT IS time Ford recalled these cars and replaced the brake hoses to ensure the danger is eliminated. It's very fortunate no one has been killed as a result of these failures. A veteran of the industry, a brake expert, is astounded that it hasn't been the subject of a recall.
