THE converter on my 2005 E-Gas BF Ford Falcon became gummed up, causing it lose power climbing hills. My dealer told me the problem was caused by contaminated LPG, and also told me they got around two cars a week in with the same problem. I bought the LPG from Shell, so contacted them as I thought I had a good claim for the cost of repairs. They denied any problem and rejected my claim. My car was running fine before I started buying my LPG from Shell; now contaminated LPG has damaged my converter, so Shell must have sold it to me. Is this worth pursuing and if so what should be my next step?
IT'S hard to conclusively prove that the Shell LPG was at fault, but I would immediately switch brands and see if the problem goes away. I would also try to contact other owners that have been affected in your area and see if there is a pattern that points to Shell, and contact LPG Australia and report your concerns to them.
