Clunk rock

TWO months ago I bought a 2005 BA MK11 XR6. Recently I started hearing a clunk sound in the auto transmission and vibration when it changes from first into second gear and in fourth. Also, if the car is parked on a sloping road or driveway, the gearshift is hard to pull back when I try to change from park to reverse. I sent it to a Ford dealer to fix, but the car still sounds the same. Can you explain what the problem is, how it can be fixed and will it lead to problems or expenses when the warranty ends?

THE clunking is usually from the diff, which is a known problem on the XR6, but we've heard from another reader, Clyde Wolfenden, that Ford has a fix for this problem in the form of revised auto trans shift points. He reckons this fixed his car, so you might check with your dealer about having it done to yours.
