My Mitsubishi Challenger is about two years old. It was recalled due to the possibility of overheating. The modification involved a new radiator cap and changing the radiator coolant. It was told this would reduce the likelihood of the radiator boiling. I do understand that a higher pressure cap will prevent the radiator boiling until the temperature is higher, but is it the correct solution to allow the engine to run at a higher temperature? Will the life of the engine be compromised?
The problem could have been the coolant, rather than the cap. A higher-pressure cap can help if it's a minor problem but, in any case, if you run into problems in the future there is an admission of a problem by Mitsubishi.
