I purchased a new 2010 Mitsubishi Challenger LS with a reversing camera and reversing sensors fitted by the dealer. These parts have a 3-year warranty and about six months after this timeframe passed the reversing camera stopped working. All of a sudden, the screen, connected to my rear view mirror was completely white. My dealer could not find a fault with the wiring, but they could not test the camera/screen, as they did not have a spare unit they could test it on. All they could offer was to replace the reversing camera at a cost of $800. Is 3.5 years a reasonable lifespan or should these units be lasting much longer?
Of course they should last longer than 3.5 years, but yours could be a one-off. You have to understand that things do go wrong with our cars; no car is 100 per cent bulletproof. The main issue I would have in your case is that no one seems to be able to find the cause of the problem and fix it.
