I'M having problems selecting gears in my 2000 Toyota RAV4 with 150,000km on the clock. It's also starting to "clunk" going between the gears. My normal mechanic, and Toyota, have told me that 150,000km is generally when the RAV4 needs to have its clutch replaced, but the bad news is that the work takes 16-18 hours. Is that normal?
THE kilometres seem about right for a clutch replacement, so I wouldn't be concerned about that, but the time needed to replace it seems a little high. Your Toyota dealer will be able to show you the time Toyota allows for a clutch change, which should calm your concerns. My trade contacts suggest 12 hours is needed to replace a clutch, so be prepared for a bill of about $850 just for labour.
