Toyota RAV4 1997: High oil consumption

WE BOUGHT a 1997 Toyota RAV4 six months ago. We are happy apart from the oil consumption. It uses over a litre per 2000km. There are no leaks, and it blows no smoke at all. We bought the car from a reputable Toyota dealer who says it is normal usage. The RAV4 has now done about 110,000km. Do you have any idea where the oil is going? Should I pursue it further with the dealership?

FEW modern engines use oil, and the consumption you are experiencing is high. Talk to the dealer, and if you are unhappy with its response contact Toyota's Customer Assistance people and register your complaint. Take an accurate record of the oil usage. It's no good going to the dealer if you have no hard evidence to back up the claim.
