Emily discovered her interest in cars early through her mum’s passion, and quickly found herself researching the cool cars her mum’s S15 Nissan 200SX passed on the highway.

Emily's readiness to engage and have a chat wound up opening her first door in the media, spending time as a freelance events and news photographer for her local paper while undertaking a Creative Writing degree at the University of Wollongong.

After graduating, Emily helped to build the family real estate business. Not satisfied with the high-octane environment of sales, Emily signed a book deal for her YA fantasy novel and has successfully published the first novel in the series.

Always one to be busy (sometimes to her chagrin), she wrote the novel and then completed the edits while pregnant with her cheeky five-year-old boy. As if growing a little human wasn’t exhausting enough!

But her natural curiosity of ‘what’s that car?!’ and 'why don't they do it this way?!' continued throughout and it didn’t come as a surprise to her family when she was drawn into the automotive world professionally as a Contributing Journalist with CarsGuide.

Aside from her passion for what makes a good family car, Emily has a soft spot for Nissan Skylines, big utes and any muscle cars that make the heart thump.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 2023 review: 110TSI Life
By Emily Agar · 30 Aug 2022
The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace sits nicely between the five-seater Tiguan and its bigger brother, the Touareg. In terms of size, this fits into the Goldilocks middle ground. Not too big and not too small. It's the sort of SUV that should appeal to those who gulp when they see the giant SUVs or people movers but still want some room to breathe when packed in with the fam. But is space enough?

Mazda3 2023 review: G25 Evolve SP hatch
By Emily Agar · 23 Aug 2022
The humble hatchback is the choice for 'youngsters' and the older gen who are wanting something that's easy to handle with relatively low running costs. However, they're also gaining popularity with families because space is at a premium in the city and not everyone needs (or wants) a big bruiser SUV or wagon to drive. This is where the Mazda3 hatch comes in.

Kia Stinger 2022 review: 330S
By Emily Agar · 02 Aug 2022
The Kia Stinger has only been around since 2017 but it's made an impact in the heavy-hitting sportback market for good reason. Australians have a strong history with high octane sedans. You were either a Holden or Ford family, not both. However, the Stinger was never meant to compete with our 'Aussie muscle' and is pitted against European thoroughbreds. Is the Stinger still holding its own?

Volkswagen Polo 2022 review: Life
By Emily Agar · 31 Jul 2022
The Volkswagen Polo Life hasn't changed much since the last version but it's popular for a reason. Still, it's a safe play compared to some of the other hatchback designs coming out now. If you're looking at this for a family car you need or want something that's small on the outside. But does that mean it's going to be too cramped on the inside?

Mazda CX-30 2023 review: G20E Evolve
By Emily Agar · 21 Jul 2022
The Mazda CX-30 is one of seven SUVs available in the Mazda range and at first glance, looks very similar to its cousins. So what makes the G20E Evolve stand apart? Well, it's a hybrid and the interior is rather nice for the price tag. But is that enough to make it attractive for those looking for a bit of extra space but who don't want to leave their hatchback days behind them?

Skoda Superb 2022 review: Sportline Liftback
By Emily Agar · 19 Jul 2022
The Superb is the biggest car Skoda makes that isn't an SUV. Interestingly, like some other European models, it has an all-wheel drive drivetrain and if you want a bit more space, the Superb also comes in a wagon version. Is the Skoda Superb Sportline Liftback the family car we didn't know we needed?

Mitsubishi Triton 2022 review: GSR
By Emily Agar · 14 Jul 2022
The Mitsubishi Triton has been a long-standing Aussie favourite and the GSR is set to carry that tradition forward. The relatively narrow body makes it a friend in car parks but it still looks ruggedly capable, and being a dual cab auto four-wheel drive means it will probably land on most wish lists. It looks the part, but does that capability extend to family life, too?

Hyundai Tucson 2022 review: Elite 2.0D N Line
By Emily Agar · 10 Jul 2022
The Hyundai Tucson had a revamp just over a year ago, and gone are the frumpy curves of its predecessor. This design showcases some serious style cred, giving the market an SUV that's exciting to look at while hinting at being family friendly with its size. It's a surprisingly well-appointed SUV for the price tag. But does this particular Tucson deliver for family life?

Renault Captur 2022 review
By Emily Agar · 18 Jun 2022
The Renault Captur is a stylish looking entry to Renault's smallest SUV range. It's a cute little package that could appeal to those who love the hatchback experience but need an SUV. Its size makes it well-suited to city living but has it compromised on some comforts to be this compact?
