The first thing to do is to give it a tune-up, with new spark plugs, replace the air cleaner, and clean the throttle body.

Is it normal for five year-old Mercedes sensors to go out?
Answered by Graham Smith · 2 Feb 2018

It’s not a common failure, and I doubt that Mercedes-Benz would contribute to the cost of repairs.

Ford Fiesta 2012: What is oil sweat from the gearbox?
Answered by Graham Smith · 2 Feb 2018

It’s a fine smear of oil, not a leak as such. It’s not something to worry about, unless it develops into a more serious leak.

Can I skip my car's servicing?
Answered by Graham Smith · 2 Feb 2018

Skipping oil changes is the worst possible thing to do, the oil will get thick and sludgy and the risk is that it will block the galleries in the engine, and in the worst case it could cause the engine to fail.

We contacted Subaru to see if there was anything further to add, and they told us that if you were willing to provide your rego and/or VIN number, they would check with customer relations. They added that normally, the first letter alerts the customer that the recall is pending and advises that they would be in touch when the parts are available, but without knowing what phase your car car is at, they couldn’t offer a definitive answer without investigating. I would suggest you contact the Customer Relations Team (1800 22 66 43) and give them the requested information they need to take it further.

The diesel will do your towing easier, and will be more economical as well.

Mazda CX-5: Why has the ISTOP function stopped working?
Answered by Graham Smith · 25 Jan 2018

Intermittent problems are hard to fix because the mechanic really has nothing to go when everything is working. It could be an electrical connection, or a sensor. The only thing you can do is to persist and take it to the dealer when it happens again.

Kia Cerato 2018: Can you get AEB?
Answered by Graham Smith · 25 Jan 2018

It’s not available on the current car. You have to wait for the new model, which launches in a couple of months.

Does the '15 Holden Cruze have automatic problems?
Answered by Graham Smith · 25 Jan 2018

The problem models are from around 2010/2011. They are definitely ones to avoid, but you needn’t be worried about the 2015 model.

Subaru XV 2013: What is causing the engine light to flash?
Answered by Graham Smith · 25 Jan 2018

The shudder on take-off suggests a transmission problem, but the other issues are unlikely to be related to the gearbox. Get it to a Subaru dealer or specialist and have it checked out.
