How does this new addition to the Volkswagen range of SUVs, the compact T-Roc 110TSI, compare to the others? Well, the secret is in the name, this car kind of rocks.

This could be the most important SUV in the Volkswagen range for the coming years. Sure, we've already seen the T-Roc in Australia, but that was the expensive sporty version with all-wheel drive. Now there's a base model version, the 110TSI Style, which is more affordable, still comes well kitted out, has a decent little turbo engine and auto transmission, and could be the right size for you!

At one end of the small SUV corner are all the mainstream combatants - Mazda, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan etc - while at the other end are the premium players, as defined by Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Volvo. Nestled in between is the new VW T-Roc, attempting to muscle-in on both territories with style, swagger and - in racy 140TSI Sport guise - driver-focus spunk. Does it succeed?
