If you own a RAV4, the next logical step up the Toyota ladder isn't a 300 Series. It's not a LandCruiser wagon. Nor a Prado. It's not even a Fortuner. The logical move up from there is the Toyota Kluger seven-seater SUV, which - in current-generation guise - finally comes with a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. The all-new Kluger GXL Hybrid AWD should have been a slam-dunk for Toyota. By ushering in affordable, accessible petrol-electric efficiency, it bypasses the dirty, noisy and smelly diesel alternatives that large SUV buyers must instead choose if they want an economical, family-friendly seven-seater package. But it's expensive, cheap inside and under-equipped, so isn't the sweet spot we expected.
