KGM Rexton 2026 review: Advance
By Marcus Craft · 18 Oct 2025
KGM – formerly SsangYong – has revised its seven-seat Rexton large SUV range for 2026, with some minor changes throughout the Australian line-up. The mid-spec Advance (formerly the Adventure) is equipped with high and low-range 4WD, an auto-locking rear diff and 3.5-tonne towing capacity. Is it set to challenge the likes of GWM Tank 500, Mahindra Scorpio and LDV D90? Or even the Ford Everest?

My new 2025 GWM Cannon has a loud grinding noise and brake warning lights, but GWM cannot find any fault with the brakes
By David Morley · 17 Oct 2025

I purchased a 2025 GWM Cannon Lux 4x4 in July this year and have been having an intermittent issue with a loud grinding noise which occurs at random when driving around town and has also occurred sometimes when reversing. This issue occurs on average one or two times a week. The issue has not occurred during highway driving. We have noticed that when this issue occurs, the brake light (brake symbol) on the dash flashes on intermittently, and we have also noticed that there is a slight vehicle jolt that we sometimes feel.

We have had the vehicle back to the dealer three times now for this issue but they cannot find any fault with the braking system. The dealer has also replaced the timing belt for a cyclic noise recall, the turbo has also been checked out and found okay. We have booked the vehicle in for another investigation at another GWM service centre in a fortnight. Any idea or comments you might have would be appreciated.

Against rivals like the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender , the Chinese off-roader plans to outmanoeuvre them with a mix of sheer opulence, off-road capability, on-road refinement and advanced hybrid tech, at a fraction of their cost – if it gets the green light . Here's our first drive on Australian soil.

Kia Tasman 2026 review: X-Pro - Off-road test
By Marcus Craft · 12 Oct 2025
Excitement about the finally-here Kia Tasman hit fever-pitch a long time ago and that hasn't abated. And for good reasons: The Tasman is a body-on-frame 4WD with a ladder chassis, off-road drive modes, rear diff lock and an exterior that draws admiring glances or annoyed glares. Is its top-spec X-Pro a serious competitor for the likes of the Ford Ranger Wildtrak or the Toyota HiLux GR Sport?

My 2015 Mazda BT-50 drops gears when I accelerate
By David Morley · 10 Oct 2025

I’m currently having issues with my 2015 Mazda BT-50 dropping gears when I accelerate. It seems to happen when I accelerate or I’m on an incline, when it either revs up to 3000rpm while not engaging into gear, or drops back a gear, usually to second or third. There are no codes coming up. I had my transmission serviced at 190,000km, and the ute is regularly serviced. The mechanics couldn’t help me without any fault codes. I’m stumped.
