The Kia Cerato S is a five-seat, four-door small sedan that's offered on one platform with two gearbox choices. It sits below the Sport and Sport+.The front-drive sedan comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 112kW/192Nm, and offers a six-speed manual as standard for $19,990. A six-speed automatic transmission costs $1500 extra.All Ceratos are equipped with AEB, lane departure warning and forward collision warning as standard. The S is equipped with a reversing camera and front/rear sensors, along with standard air conditioning, 16-inch steel rims, cloth trim, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat and an 8.0-inch screen with, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Kia Cerato Sport is a five-seat, four-door small sedan that's offered in a single mechanical specification. It sits above the S and below the Sport+.The front-drive sedan costs $23,690, and comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 112kW/192Nm, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.All Ceratos are equipped with AEB, lane departure warning and forward collision warning as standard. The Sport is additionally equipped with a reversing camera and front/rear sensors, along with standard air conditioning, 17-inch alloy rims, sports cloth trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel, an six-way adjustable driver’s seat and an 8.0-inch screen with sat nav, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Kia's best selling car is the Cerato, and the third generation sedan will go up against category-leading rivals like the Toyota Corolla, Mazda3 and Honda Civic in the shrinking small car category.

Kicking off the 6 range is the entry-level Sport, available in both sedan and wagon form.

It’s a case of evolution over revolution for the updated Mazda6 range. Lucky, then, that’s all Mazda’s flagship model required.

Second in the range is the 6 Touring, which adds the option of the 2.2-litre twin-turbo diesel engine. As with the Sport, you have a choice of sedan or wagon body styles. It's priced from $36,690 to $40,990, with those down by around $500 on the outgoing model.It's a big financial step up, but for your extra money you'll get 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, leather seats, power heated and folding mirrors, power windows, electric seats, 11 Bose-branded speakers, auto headlights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, a leather steering wheel and gear shifter, sat nav, keyless entry and start, active cruise control and front and rear parking sensors.Mazda's reputation for loading up with safety gear remains undimmed with the new 6. It has six airbags, ABS, stability and traction controls, high beam control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, radar cruise control, forward and reversing AEB, reverse cross-traffic alert, reversing camera and traffic sign recognition.Mazda's MZD Connect touchscreen handles the media (including DAB radio) and sat nav duties on an 8.0-inch touchscreen with rotary dial control. 

Third in the four-car 6 range is the GT, priced from $43,990 to $46,390. The 2.5-litre petrol picks up a turbo, with power jumping to 170kW and torque soaring to 420Nm. That the WRX is a wild-at-heart bang-for-bucks hero has never been in dispute. What's less certain, though, is whether it can also double as a toned-down family taxi.

We love our liberty and we love our Subaru Libertys. The Japanese company gave their medium-sizer a going-over late last year and we took the 2.5i Premium for a spin.

There is no denying niche models help premium brands sell more cars, and the BMW 6 Series GT is probably the epitome of that argument.
