Say g’day to the cars you’ll be getting booked by on NSW roads from July this year. The new weapons of choice for the NSW Highway Patrol are the V8 Chrysler 300 SRT Core and turbocharged six-cylinder BMW 530D.
After Ford and Holden announced they would be cancelling production of their much-loved large rear-drive sedans police forces all over Australia went hunting replacement Highway Patrol vehicles. Though they looked at the V8 Ford Mustang coupe and new turbo V6 Kia Stinger, the Highway Patrol’s extra-tough criteria meant only the 350kW 6.4-litre V8 Chrysler and 195kW, 630Nm diesel BMW sedans would be able to handle the stresses of police work.
They’ll take over full duties from July 2018.
