Porsche Australia has surprised and delighted buyers by announcing huge price cuts for the 718 sports-car range, covering both the Cayman coupe and Boxster convertible

Porsche Cars Australia will introduce new GTS 4.0 versions of its 718 Cayman coupe and Boxster convertible in the middle of the year, powered by a detuned version of the flat-six engine found in the range-topping GT4 and Spyder.Priced at $172,400 before on-road costs and $175,200 for the Cayman and Boxster respectively, the GTS 4.0 will be $34,600/$22,000 more affordable than the aforementioned flagships, but also pricier than the base and S variants that kick off from $116,000.Motivation in the GTS 4.0 grades come from a 4.0-litre flat-six petrol engine with a 7800rpm redline, outputting 294kW of power, though torque figures are yet to be revealed.For reference, the GT4 and Cayman are tuned to 309kW/420Nm.Drive in the GTS 4.0 is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, enabling a 4.5-second zero-to-100km/h run. Top speed is capped at 293km/h and no automatic option is available.Cylinder deactivation and a variable intake system also features on the 4.0-litre engine to keep fuel use down, but no official consumption figures have been shown.As standard, the GTS 4.0 is fitted with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) that lowers the ride height by 20mm compared to the standard grades, and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical limited-slip rear differential.The Sport Chrono package is also included at no extra cost, as is a sports exhaust, active drivetrain mounts, 20-inch satin-gloss black wheels, and cross-drilled brake discs with red callipers.Dark Alcantara swathes the interior, including on the sports seats, steering wheel, centre console, shifter and door armrests, while a 7.0-inch Porsche Communication Management (PCM) multimedia system sits front and centre of the dashboard.The fixed-roof Cayman GTS 4.0 also gets the soft-touch material on the A-pillars and roof lining.Cruise control, heated seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, reversing camera, auto-dimming side mirrors, digital radio and satellite navigation are also standard on the new GTS 4.0.Buyers can also opt for a contrasting interior colour – either Carmine Red or Chalk – that will be applied to the rev counter, seat belts and embroidered logos on the pews.Other options include sports suspension that lowers the body by just 10mm, ceramic brakes and a premium sound system.From the outside, the GTS 4.0 stands out due to dark detailing on the spoiler lip, front bumper air intakes, foglight lenses, tail-lights and lower rear bumper.
