The confirmation of the car will see it as one of three supercars on the Lamborghini stand at the Show ahead of its on-sale date later this year. This will give the Australian public their first official look at this all-new entry-level supercar. The Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder is the only convertible rear-wheel-drive variant in the Italian supercar manufacturer’s line-up and has been inspired by Valentino Balboni, who was Lamborghini’s test driver for over 40 years. Making its second official appearance in Australia will be the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, which was also at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show. Since its introduction last year, the Aventador, with its jet-fighter inspired styling and lightweight 60-degree V12 engine capable of reaching 0-100km/hour in just 2.9 seconds, has achieved success globally. “Lamborghini is always a crowd favourite at the Australian International Motor Show and we are excited they will be displaying their newest and most popular models in Sydney, as well as debuting an all-new stand design,” said Russ Tyrie, Show Director. “At this stage, we can confirm that a third vehicle will feature on the Lamborghini stand; whilst we cannot give exact details just yet, it will be a show-stopping concept never before seen in Australia.” The 2012 Australian International Motor Show will be held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour from October 19-28, 2012. A highlight of the forthcoming RACV Motorclassica auction is a 1969 Lamborghini once owned by the fashion model.Lesley 'Twiggy' Lawson's 1969 Lamborghini Miura S is being offered for sale for the first time in 34 years. Twiggy was named The Face of 1966 by the Daily Express and voted British Woman of the Year.After modelling Twiggy went on to enjoy a successful career as a screen, stage and television actress. According to the accompanying paperwork from Automobili Lamborghini, the car "was indeed sold by us to Twiggy through our UK Importers in 1969".It was delivered to the Daily Express's The Face of '66 in her chosen colour scheme. "It was painted lime green with orange-white stripes, probably at our factory, whilst also according to our records it was white originally".This outstanding, original Factory right hand drive Lamborghini Miura S has been with its current owner since 1978. Now in its third year, RACV Motorclassica will be held at the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, from October 26-28.It will feature special tributes to Sir Jack Brabham, the 100th Anniversary of the Victorian Motor Show and the 60th Anniversary of Lotus. The climax of the event will be the Collector Car Auction on Sunday, October 28. 

   

That's rumoured to be on the cards for the Lamborghini stand at the show in February next year. Automobile magazine overnight reported that Lamborghini's line-up for Geneva will include a Gran Turismo four-seat version of the Aventador. The report suggests the Aventador GT would be built on an extended wheelbase that would allow  two small seats in the rear, with the possibility of a changed door design to make way for suicide panels for easier access. The concept -- and it may only appear as a concept, after all -- would also mean a considerable redesign of the flanks and rear of the Aventador to accommodate the changes on a mid-engined platform. Even with Lamborghini on a campaign to rebuild their profit base with more practical models like the Urus SUV that will attract more buyers in emerging economic giants like China and Russia, the idea of a four-seater Lamborghini seems wildly unlikely. But we remember thinking the same thing at the first rumour of a four-seat Ferrari, too.    

Drifting a 419kW Lamborghini around the twisties seems dangerous enough - but imagining doing it at altitudes above 2000m on a snow-covered mountain road. And not just any road. This is the Transfagarasan - a dramatic stretch of asphalt that is one of the world’s great drives, and which was applauded by BBC's Top Gear in their 14th season opener Romanian GT Road Trip. The video is a behind the scenes look at  a photo shoot for the Lamborghini Magazine and features one of the most extreme Gallardos ever to be built. Limited to 150 units, the LP570-4 Super Tofeao Stadale is a street legal version of the radical Super Trofeo race car. It's got some serious grunt thanks to a V10 engine pumping out 419kW. As a result of a weight reduction of 70kg compared to the standard LP570-4 it's also blistering fast. Not only is 0 to 100 km/h achieved in 3.4 seconds but 200 km/h is reached in 10.4 seconds. We're not sure all that grunt would be especially useful in the snow but the driver's drifting skills as he's chased by a helicopter are sublime. And a folding roof is not going to work well with that. So Lamborghini are said to be designing the convertible version of the Aventador with a removable targa roof. European press and websites overnight suggested that the open-shut case for the Aventador will be a detachable roof that removes in two separate sections. That the roof panels will be carbon fibre is a no-brainer, given there will still be a focus on keeping weight down – and down low – as much as possible. However there’s no information on whether the convertible will include on-board storage for the panels, and given the Aventador’s shape that could be a tricky exercise. But keeping the engine cover identical between the two cars is not just a matter of pleasing the eye. Redesigning it would mean expensive extra work – and lengthen the production schedule. Lamborghini are likely to have the car under the spotlight at Paris motor show in September, and could well start teasing more details before then.  

... fighting bulls and moving into the heavens.The Italian carmaker has just trademarked the name Huracan - the Mayan god of wind, storms and fire (from which, through Spanish, we get the word hurricane).The move follows the recent trademarking of the name Deimos: the Greek god of battlefield terror.There's no indication of which cars will carry the nameplates, but it's likely one will be the production version of the Urus SUV unveiled at Beijing motor show.Of course, while both names are related to gods, there's still a chance they might also be related to beasts in the bullfighting annals. If any car company can find that kind of connection, it's the one with the bull on the badge.

Finks motorcycle gang club enforcer Richard Michail, 38, and Matthew Ward, 34, were on April 16 sentenced in the County Court after they were found guilty of stealing the canary yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera in May 2010. After arriving at Lorbek Prestige Cars, Michail approached director Srecko Lorbek and demanded they "go for a little walk''. Michail slammed Mr Lorbek's head into a car and demanded $50,000 before taking the vehicle. He then threatened to rip Mr Lorbek's hands off when he tried to stop him, the court heard. Michail drove the car to the nearby Finks bikie gang clubhouse where it was later found by police. Justice Mark Dean said the men, who were wearing Finks T-shirts, had used bikie links to intimidate staff. "This was a brazen offence and your conduct must be denounced,'' Mr Justice Dean said. "Persons carrying out their lawful business must be protected from acts of intimidation and violence.'' Michail was sentenced to 3 1/2 years' jail and must serve two years before he is eligible for parole. For his part, Ward was sentenced to three years' jail and will be eligible for parole after 18 months.  

SUV surrender flags are flying around the world and Lamborghini is the latest to run one up its flagpole.  Lamborghini's capitulation comes in the shape of the Urus, a futuristic family-sized SUV it believes will sit comfortably alongside an Aventador or Gallardo supercar in upscale garages around the world. And potentially add another 3000 sales a year to its bottom line. It's no surprise to see the Urus starring for the Italian company this week at the Beijing motor show, as wealthy Chinese actually see a need for serious rough-road ability on the country's lousy roads and high-priced SUVs are firm favourites. The Urus comes following Maserati's confirmation of the Kubang and Bentley's announcement in March that it is to join the SUV stoush, although its ugly EXP 9F will need some tweaking before it hits showrooms, leaving Jaguar as the only upscale hold-out as Aston Martin is also working on a vehicle to bring the Lagonda name back from the dead with Mercedes-Benz ML mechanicals. Lamborghini describes the Urus as "the ultimate super athlete", although it is yet to give engine details or a timetable for production.  It's most likely to have a tweaked V12 engine because of its heft, although Lamborghini is promising 440 kiloWatts with best-in-class C02 emissions which would mean significant changes from the powerplant in the Aventador. It's also promising supreme luxury for just four passengers, as well as plenty of its signature carbon fibre to reduce weight below its rivals - the Aventador has a full carbon chassis - and even variable ground clearance to go with its all-wheel drive grip. Lamborghini should have no problem on that front, as Audi is its parent company and versions of its quattro drive with double clutch gearboxes are used in both the Gallardo and Aventador.  "The Urus is a very concrete idea for the future of Lamborghini - as a third model line and as the perfect complement to our super sports cars," says Stefan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.  "The Urus is the most extreme interpretation of the SUV idea. It is the Lamborghini of SUVs." But he also knows that Lamborghini needs sales and cash from the Urus, just as Porsche did when it brought the brand-saving Cayenne SUV - which put the company back into profit - to life alongside its sports cars. "The Urus means that a Lamborghini can now be used by a household as its primary car." The Urus is close to five metres in length but only 166 centimetres tall, well belong its rivals and a reflection of the edgy design work on the body. The bright red Urus in Beijing rolls on giant 24-inch alloy wheels, has active aerodynamics with an adjustable front spoiler, and a full battery of LED lights at both ends. Australian buyers probably face a long wait for the Urus, although a local plan is still being developed. "It's probably three years away from us, although we'd like to get it sooner," says Martin Roller of Lamborghini. "We're pretty excited about the car. The demand for SUVs in Australia is incredibly strong. "It's big news. To have a third Lamborghini model, and especially, an SUV, is a big deal. We've only known about it for a day and we're already got people asking about it." And the name? Lamborghini traditionally names its sports cars after Spanish fighting bulls, but the Urus goes back further to the roots of the breed. Wild Urus bulls, also known as Aurochs, were the distant ancestors of domestic cattle and could stand up to 1.8 metres tall.
