Citroen not leaving Australia: It's official
By Laura Berry · 19 Jul 2019
Citroen Australia says the French brand will not be abandoning Australia despite declining sales and a shrinking model line-up.Speaking at the launch of the new C5 Aircross SUV, Citroen Australia communications boss Tyson Bowen told CarsGuide Australians need not be concerned that the manufacturer will give up selling its cars here.“Do people have to worry that we’re going anywhere? No – we’re building La Maison,” Bowen said.La Maison (or one’s home) refers to the local rebranding of dealerships with Citroen and Peugeot separated into two distinct areas within the one facility. The first Citroen La Maison has already opened at Peugeot Citroen Parramatta in Western Sydney. With the C4 Cactus, C4 Grand Picasso and Berlingo van no longer on sale in Australia only three models remain in the Citroen range – the C3 hatch, C3 Aircross and the new C5 Aircross. This smaller line-up is all part of the plan according to Citroen's general manager of marketing,  Kate Gillis and she assured Australians Citroen isn’t leaving.“We wouldn’t be here if that was the case,” she said referring to the C5 Aircross launch.“We need to be realistic about where we are and start to grow from there. It’s fraught with danger if we start to go too broad too quickly which would end up with a brand that’s not sustainable for the future,” she said."We need to start building that ground swell of customer interest that we currently don’t have but we have a whole heap of great familiarity with the brand, so we need to start to bring that back to life.”This year Citroen has sold 221 cars with the Berlingo and Cactus accounting for more the 50 per cent of those sales. Compared to 2018 year-to-date sales for Citroen in Australia are down by 7.1 per cent.

Pure-electric Citroen 19_19 Concept uncovered
By Spencer Leech · 14 May 2019
Citroen has revealed its new 19_19 Concept ahead of its public debut at the VivaTech technology show in Paris later this week. The fully electric vehicle has been described as a “UFO in the automotive sector”, with a futuristic design that takes inspiration from the aviation field. Earlier this year, Citroen revealed its Ami One Concept which showed the company’s take on future urban mobility.According to the French carmaker, the new 19_19 Concept instead illustrates its vision of extended mobility outside of the city – a notion bolstered by the vehicle’s claimed 800 kilometre range and autonomous driving capability. In theory, the Citroen can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in five seconds before reaching a top speed of 200km/h.A stand-out feature of the 19_19 is its living-room-style cabin, which is suspended with its own bespoke hydraulic suspension system for an ultra-smooth ride.Passengers can enter the 19_19 via a rear-hinged pillar-free door, which gives access to three unique seating options – a soft comfort seat for the driver, a reclining lounge seat for the front passenger, and a “sun-deck-inspired” sofa for rear-seat occupants.Citroen took a minimalistic approach for the dash, with a retractable steering wheel, smooth and flat surfaces, a head-up display and the brand’s Personal Assistant software to handle driver commands using voice recognition. The cabin sits above tall and narrow wheels (255/30R30) positioned squarely at the far corners of the body.Goodyear was called on to develop the wheels, which are said to give the impression of a vehicle moving forward on independent spheres thanks to a “seamless continuity” between the rim and tyre. The exterior features a transparent sculpted double bonnet that is said to channel air towards the windscreen for improved aerodynamics, and the 19_19 carries on the ‘Y’ shape LED light signature previewed on Citroen’s previous concept cars.

Citroen prices new C5 Aircross mid-size SUV
By Jake Williams · 17 Apr 2019
Ahead of a mid-2019 arrival, Citroen has released local pricing and specifications for its new C5 Aircross mid-size SUV. Priced from $39,990 plus on-road costs and offered in two local specifications - Pure and Shine - that will compete with cars such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Mazda CX-5 and its platform sharing cousin, the Peugeot 3008. Just one engine will be offered locally, a 121kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo four that’s also offered in the 3008. An eight-speed automatic will be standard equipment on both models, and the C5 Aircross will be front-wheel drive only. Standard equipment highlights on the entry level Pure include AEB, blind-spot monitoring, wireless phone charging, a 12.1-inch digital driver’s display, automatic lights and wipers with LED daytime running lights, a 360º parking camera and the brand’s hydraulic cushion suspension, which promises the most comfortable ride in the mid-size SUV class. The upper spec Shine will offer a sunroof and other trim upgrades such as leather upholstery. Like the recently launched C3 Aircross, there will be no options available for the C5 Aircross aside from colour. The rear seat slides fore and aft to open up to 720-litres of bootspace, and split 40:20:40 for more practicality. The Shine is expected to be the biggest seller in the C5 Aircross range, with local Citroen execs suggesting that its superior value to the entry level model would win it more buyers. 2019 Citroen C5 Aircross pricing (plus on-road costs):
