As the name implies, the Premium is the flagship grade in Hyundai’s new second-generation Kona line-up. At just over 4.3m long, 1.8m wide and close to 1.6m tall, the technically 'small' SUV is appreciably bigger on the outside and prices range from $39,500, before on-road costs, for the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol model, through $42,500 for an N Line version of the same car and finally $46,500

Futuristic looks underpinned by an all-new 'EV-led' platform mark Hyundai's bigger second-generation Kona as one to watch in the small SUV category. Launching initially with a choice of petrol engines in front- and all-wheel drive across multiple grades, there are hybrid and EV models scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2023. Have the changes to the 2021 Hyundai Kona gone far enough? Is the Highlander now worth saving up for? We reckon that's a qualified yes, thanks to palpably improved petrol engine economy, reduced noise and higher-quality interior trim, rounding out a small SUV that remains frisky and fun to drive. But prices are steep, cabin space is tight, the dash now seems dated and the ride's still too firm.
