China’s XPeng is poised to reveal a range-extender (REEV) version of its new G7 SUV.
A Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing for the new vehicle variant has been unearthed by Car News China.
The G7 REEV is powered by the same rear-mounted electric motor as the electric version that produces 218kW.
However, it’s fed by an incrementally smaller 55.8kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a claimed EV range of 325km, according to lenient CLTC testing. The G7 EV comes with either a 68.5kWh or 80.8kWh LFP battery, depending on the version.
The G7 REEV also has a 1.5-litre petrol engine that acts purely as a generator to top up the high-voltage battery pack.
At this stage XPeng hasn’t detailed a total range figure for the G7 REEV.

Other information noted in the Chinese MIIT filing include it having a kerb weight of around 2250kg, and measuring 4918mm long, 1925mm wide and 1655mm tall with a 2890mm wheelbase. This is around the same length and width as a Toyota LandCruiser.
There are also 19- and 20-inch alloy wheel options, retractable exterior door handles, as well as front wheel arch-mounted cameras.
It’s expected the G7 REEV’s interior will be similar to the electric version. It has a 15.6-inch central touchscreen multimedia system, 87-inch head-up display, panoramic sunroof, 20-speaker sound system and interior ambient lighting.

The XPeng G7 is built on the same platform as the G6 that’s already on sale in Australia. The former is longer and more coupe-like.
XPeng arrived in Australia in 2024 with importing, distribution and the retail network handled by Sydney-based TrueEV.
However it’s understood the company could begin taking more direct control over the operation as soon as late 2025.

XPeng currently only offers one model in Australia, the G6 electric mid-size SUV.
It will launch the X9 electric people mover locally either late 2025 or early 2026, and the G9 large electric SUV around mid-2026. An updated version of the G6 is due before the end of this year.
