Renault EZ-Ultimo concept revealed in Paris

Renault has this week unveiled a new concept at the Paris motor show known as the EZ-Ultimo, an autonomous vehicle which takes a look at the future of ride sharing for high-flying passengers.

Long, narrow and striking in design, the concept uses an all-electric powertrain to drive the front wheels and is equipped with Level 4 autonomous capability.

This is not the first one-off Renault to envision shared mobility in years to come, in fact, it's the third 'EZ' vehicle that the French carmaker has developed.

However, unlike the EZ-Go ride sharing platform and the EZ-Pro delivery vehicle, which aimed to serve utilitarian purposes, the new EZ-Ultimo is designed to serve as comfortable transport for the well-to-do.

Renault envisions a variety of applications for the Ultimo as it considers replacements for chauffeur services and limousines.

In conjunction with other companies, the EZ-Ultimo could be hired to transport guests in comfort, without the need for a driver.

The vehicle seats just three people, and uses premium materials like leather, velvet, walnut and marble, and, like a limousine, has a privacy effect so passers-by cannot see inside.

On the outside, a two-tone paint job of black and green is used for the lower section, and the top features champagne gold accents.

Recessed head- and tail-lights also add to the futuristic look, as well as its large panoramic sunroof and bespoke wheel design.

Mechanically, Renault has revealed that it uses active suspension and aerodynamics as well as a four-wheel steering system to help it navigate tight environments.

Level 4 autonomous capability means that the EZ-Ultimo can drive on its own as long as the area is clearly demarcated and mapped in high definition, and has a connection to various road infrastructure like traffic lights and toll checkpoints.

Will this type of vehicle become commonplace in the future? Tell us what you reckon in the comment section below.
