New Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2020 pricing and specs detailed: HSV's V8 ute takes on flagship Ram dual-cab pick-up

The Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium Edition lines up against the Ram 1500 Laramie.

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has confirmed pricing for its locally remanufactured new-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pick-up, which will enter showrooms on April 20.

Priced from $113,990 plus on-road costs, the Silverado 1500 is only offered in highly specified LTZ Premium Edition guise from launch, with its closest competitor being the $99,950 Ram 1500 Laramie.

The LTZ Premium Edition is powered by a 313kW/624Nm 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine, which is mated to a 10-speed torque-converter automatic transmission that sends drive to all four wheels.

Claimed fuel consumption on the combined-cycle test (ADR 81/02) is 12.3 litres per 100 kilometres.

The Ram 1500's 5.7-litre unit concedes 22kW/68Nm, but both pick-ups have a maximum braked towing capacity of 4500kg. The 2588kg Silverado 1500 has a maximum payload capacity of 712kg.

This utility is aided by a spray-on liner for the tub, which features 12 tie-down points as standard and can be accessed via a power-operated tailgate.

Standard equipment also includes a low-range transfer case, a rear differential lock, polished 20-inch alloy wheels, 275/60 all-terrain tyres, disc brakes, LED headlights, daytime running lights, foglights and tail-lights; skid plates, power-folding side mirrors with heating and puddle lights, side steps and a power-operated tailgate.

Inside, buyers are treated to a power-operated sunroof, an 8.0-inch touchscreen MyLink multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a seven-speaker Bose sound system, a 15.0-inch head-up display, a 4.2-inch multi-function display, wireless smartphone charging, keyless entry and start, heated front and rear seats, 10-way power-adjustable front seats with cooling, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and perforated Jet Black leather-appointed upholstery.

Advanced driver-assist systems extend to low-speed autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, camera-based adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, tyre pressure monitoring, hill-descent control, hill-start assist, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors. Lane-keep assist isn’t active yet locally due to ongoing engineering challenges.

HSV offers several options for the Silverado 1500 including a cat-back exhaust system that boosts outputs by 9kW/10Nm as well as a cold air intake, front Brembo brakes, black alloy wheels, side steps, sports bars and tonneau covers.

Nine paintwork options are also available, with Summit White free, while all other hues incur a $1250 premium.

For reference, the Silverado 1500 measures 5885mm long, 2063mm wide and 1915mm tall. Its tub floor is 1776mm long and 1286mm wide between the wheel arches.

HSV will assess the LTZ Premium Edition’s sales performance before deciding to add more variants to the Silverado 1500 range, with a lower-specification version most likely.

Local timing for the new-generation Silverado 2500 and 3500 is still yet to be locked in, with HSV continuing to remanufacture their previous-generation counterparts until a new deal with General Motors (GM) can be struck, likely for a GM Speciality Vehicles joint-venture.
