Mitsubishi Galant Fortis

Mitsubishi has launched its all-new Lancer in Japan as the Galant Fortis. “It is much the same car we will be launching here within weeks but they have chosen to go with the Galant name,” says Mitsubishi Australia's Lenore Fletcher. He says Australian specifications will be announced at the launch but confirmed there will be no all-wheel-drive offered initially.

Aussie buyers who want their Lancer with all-wheel grip will have to wait longer and dig deeper to secure the performance Evo X due in Australian showrooms early next year.

The local Lancer will share the styling on the Japanese car and its basic 2.0-litre front-wheel drive train. The four-cylinder DOHC MIVEC engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission with a six-speed pre-set sports mode. The Japanese Lancer comes standard with driver and passenger airbags in the entry-level Exceed while side, curtain and knee bags are either standard on higher trim levels or available as an option.

Also available across the range as a factory-fitted option is a vehicle-stability program.
