MG is staging a run-out sale of its MG HS mid-size SUV, with prices slashed by up to nearly $16,000 at the top end of the range.

The price cut will affect all first generation models in remaining dealership stocks, but the biggest price cuts have been reserved for the two plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, the Excite and top-spec Essence variant. Carsguide has confirmed the price cut will apply to remaining MY22 PHEV models.

Drive away pricing has been cut from $49,690 for the Plus EV Essence to $34,990, representing a saving of $14,700, while pricing for the Plus EV Essence has been cut from $53,690 to $37,990, a drop of $15,700.

That's $15,000 cheaper than mid-sized PHEV rivals such as the BYD Sealion 6 Premium AWD, which is priced at $52,990 (before on-road costs) following its launch in Australia earlier this year.

Both models are now also considerably cheaper than the top-spec MG ZS EV small SUV, which starts at $49,990 drive away for the long-range FWD spec.

PHEV variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired to a permanent-magnet synchronous motor and a lithium-ion 16.6kWh battery pack. The PHEV powertrain is capable of 189kW/370Nm with power transferred to the front wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. MG claims that it delivers 63km of pure-electric driving range.

As standard, both variants get features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, driver’s six-way electric powered seat, heated front seats, LED taillights and LED running lights, MG’s Pilot Driver Safety Suite and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The Excite adds a surround-view camera, LED headlights, 18-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, two-tone leather sports seats, metal-trimmed pedals, four-way electric adjustable passenger seat and an electric tailgate.

MY23 and MY24 petrol-powered FWD variants also see a welcome price cut, too. The 2023 Vibe FWD receives a price cut of $5,000 compared to previous MY24 pricing, and now starts at $27,990 drive-away. The Excite FWD sees a larger $6,000 price cut with prices now starting at $29,990 drive-away.

MY24 vehicles kick off $3000 cheaper for the entry-level Vibe, which now starts at the new price of $29,990 drive-away. The Excite FWD will also start $4000 cheaper at $31,990 drive-away.

Both variants are powered by 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of 119kW/250Nm, with power being sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed twin clutch transmission.

As standard, the Vibe and Excite ICE variants get a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and parking camera, a leather steering wheel and the MG Pilot Driver Safety Suite.

The Excite ICE variant steps up to 18-inch diamond cut wheels, interior ambient lighting, an electric tailgate, sports pedals, built-in satellite navigation, sports mode and LED indicators.

The huge price cut comes as MG unveiled its second generation MG HS earlier this month. Petrol-powered 2025 MG HS pricing kicks off from $33,990 for the base Vibe, $36,990 for the mid-spec Excite and $40,990 for the Essence range-topper, all in drive away pricing.

A standard hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain are expected to join the current petrol lineup in the first quarter of next year.

If you can't wait that long you'd better contact your nearest MG dealership quickly, remaining stock on the first-generation MG HS will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
