The first Magma product from Genesis will enter production in the third quarter of next year.
Magma marks the first true performance vehicle from Genesis and will take the form of the GV60 Magma which is being shown off at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Piloted up the hill by F1 hero Jacky Ickx, Genesis promises that the flared, pumped and lowered GV60 Magma concept gives a very close indication to its final form.
“The festival’s storied legacy and enthusiastic audience provide an ideal platform to showcase the capabilities of our new Magma program and highlight our strong commitment to high performance,” said Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke.
Magma is Genesis’ answer to Audi RS, BMW M, Mercedes AMG and the Lexus F performance brands and could be a key driver for sales. The Korean luxury brand wants a Magma variant of every model in the current line-up – so expect to become familiar fast.
Genesis has not mentioned what kind of tech specs we can expect from the GV60 but there are plenty of pointers.

For a start the existing GV60 Performance is pretty rapid, developing 360kW and 700Nm from a pair of electric motors and a wheel-mounted Boost button – enough to trouble a Tesla Model Y Performance. It has adaptive dampers with various drive modes, too, but it’s got nothing on the wide-body Magma.
The blueprint for performance EVs was comprehensively reset when Hyundai – the owner of Genesis – released the Ioniq 5 N. It uses the same e-GMP platform as the GV60 but develops a whopping 478kW and 770Nm.
Chassis, powertrain and driver aid tuning from Albert Biermann (of BMW M fame) combined with synthesised engine sounds and gear changes were enough for combustion-engine die-hards to take note. It is much more comprehensive than a Tesla Model Y.

Being a more premium product, the GV60 Magma may go even higher with its outputs and will definitely gain a more luxurious cabin than the Ioniq 5 N.
It's unclear if the concept’s rear wing and out-there Group A racing inspired flow-formed 21-inch alloy wheels will make it to the production version.
Expect more details about the GV60 Magma, and other products to wear the nameplate, closer to its launch in Q3 next year.
