A disgruntled customer is believed to be behind a string of attacks on a major Gold Coast car dealership. The police bomb squad was yesterday called out to investigate a suspect device found under a vehicle, which was recently sold by Von Bibra motor dealers.
It follows the discovery of two pipe bombs in April that were thrown under cars at Von Bibra's Robina car yard. Von Bibra management refused to comment. The Courier-Mail was told police were close to making an arrest after more than two months of investigation.
Detectives have analysed video footage, which was handed over by Von Bibra staff showing vehicle movements outside the business. Central Drive, West Burleigh, was shut down for most of the day yesterday after a staff member found the device about 8.30am.
Police on the scene said the device was not a bomb, but contained a lethal concoction of powders and substances. Bomb squad officers had to remove it from the car and relocate it to a driveway, where it was sandbagged before being blown up.
