SIMON and Sue Evans are Australian Rally Champions for the fourth time after another convincing win, this time in Rally Queensland on the Sunshine Coast last weekend. The Subaru crew were never remotely challenged in a event which doubled as a round of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship, a category won by Indian driver Gaurav Gill.
LUKE Youlden and James Moffat have had an endurance call-up from Ford Performance Racing. Youlden will pair with Mark 'Frosty' Winterbottom in the L&H 500 at Phillip Island and then Bathurst, while promising young Moffat will share a Falcon with Steven Richards.
ITEM: SUPERBIKES will pair-up again with V8 Supercars during the flagshi L&H 500 meeting at Phillip Island next month. The two-wheelers will be a support event on the pre-Bathurst, two-driver race program from September 10-12.
CRASH-PRONE Finnish driver Jari-Matti Latvala scored the biggest win of his World Rally Championship career in Finland last weekend. Latvala trumped the dominant Citroens of Sebastian Loeb and Sebastian Ogier to take victory in the 1000 Lakes with his Ford Focus.
GLENN Seton continues his effort to win at Bathurst in partnership with Jason Bargwanna this year. Seton has signed to share a Kelly Racing Commodore with Bargwanna, a combination that has a total of 39 Bathurst starts - equal with Craig Lowdnes and Mark Skaife as the most experienced pairing at Mount Panorama in 2010.
JOHN Martin continued his classy work in the Superleague Formula in Europe last weekend, scoring two wins from three starts at Brands Hatch in Britain. The Aussie, once part of the A1GP team run by Alan Jones, is racing for Beijing Guoan in an open-wheel series.
MARCOS Ambrose was out of luck again in the latest round of the Sprint Cup in the USA, retiring early from the Pennsylvania 500. It was his third mechanical non-finish of the season and leaves him trailing in 28th position in the Nascar standings..
BRUCE Garland and Harry Suzuki are competing in Thailand this weekend with their Isuzu D-Max ute as part of their buildup to next year's Dakar Rally in South America. The pair will also tackle the Australasian Safari in Western Australia in September but are hoping for a win in the very different jungle conditions in Thailand.
