2022 Lucid Air detailed: International range pricing revealed as order books open for Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan challenger

This Tesla EV challenger has an appealing range, but will it really arrive in Australia for 2022?

Lucid Motors has released a steady stream of information on its first car, the Air luxury sedan electric vehicle (EV), since partial pricing was announced earlier in 2020.

Now with order books open internationally, the full range has had its pricing detailed, including the base model Air which can be had from the equivalent of AUD$99,116.75 in its US home market.

Customers from other markets may place a deposit, including Australians at $400 regardless of variant, although the final price for our market is still to be confirmed.

The base Air makes use of a single motor on the rear axle, delivers roughly 358kW and will offer a 653km range. The base car rides on 19-inch wheels and has a “leather alternative” interior trim. Option-wise there are a ‘selection of metallic paints’, a 20-inch wheel upgrade, and the ability to opt for the dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) setup standard across the rest of the range.

Customers from other markets may place a deposit, although the final price for our market is still to be confirmed.

Next up is the Touring (from the equivalent of AUD$124,040) which offers a dual-motor AWD drivetrain standard with its power output upped to 462kW. It shares the same 653km range with the base car. The Touring ushers in further interior trim options, 20-inch wheels as standard, and the option for a panoramic glass roof.

The top-spec Grand Touring (from the equivalent of AUD$186,392) offers the dual motor AWD drivetrain with even more power, boosted to 597kW. It also has its range extended to 832km. Standard features include 21-inch wheels, Nappa leather interior options with alcantara highlights, 3D surround audio system, and that glass ceiling.

Lucid also claims the Grand Touring is capable of Level 3 autonomy, via its ‘Dream Drive’ suite, although says it is ‘future-ready’ for this functionality via over-the air updates. It claims the Air and Touring are capable of Level 2 driving autonomy from the get-go.

Finally, there is the limited launch-special 'Dream Edition' (from the equivalent of AUD$228,915). Power is again boosted, to a considerable 805kW, although range drops slightly, to 810km. Although based on the Grand Touring specification, the Dream Edition's wheels and interior trims are unique to it.

Stay tuned for local pricing as we get closer to the electric challenger’s apparent 2022 Australian arrival.

According to the brand’s website, deliveries to US customers will begin in April 2021, and the order portal for the site projects 2022 deliveries for customers outside of the US.
