I DRIVE a Volvo 240GL automatic 1989 model with 290,000km on the clock. Occasionally the engine revs up on its own while I am driving. When I apply the brakes, the engine revs up even more and pulls hard. Sometimes it helps when I stop and switch off the engine. When I start up again, everything is back to normal. But at other times I have to do this often to bring the engine back to normal. No one seems to know what the problem is. Can you help?
IT SOUNDS like a vacuum leak, and could be associated with the brake booster. Call Volvo specialist John Johnson at Voldat Automotive, ph: 9553 1091, for more info.
