I FEEL the front tyres on my Renault Laguna are wearing very poorly. The wear is not even and it's quite heavy on the outer edges. At 10,000km I requested the front tyres be rotated to the rear and that the wheel alignment be checked, but the ``new'' front tyres have worn again. I have had the wheel alignment checked -- it was found to be spot-on -- and have increased the tyre pressure without any improvement. One tyre dealer told me the wear was normal for low-profile tyres such as the Continentals fitted to my car. Is this correct?
THE trade says the front tyres on a front-wheel-drive car wear two to three times as fast as the rear tyres, and the wear rate can be higher in a heavy front-wheel-drive car like the Laguna. At that rate you would normally expect to get 20,000-30,000km out of the front tyres and 50,000-60,000km out of the rears. On what you say it seems as though wear rate is about normal as the tyre dealer told you.
