My 1999 Toyota Camry VXI V6 surges when driven at a constant low speed. It's not as noticeable at high speed, but when you drop your speed back the car surges again. Just recently the engine light comes on every now and again. I have taken it to three different mechanics and they have done diagnostic tests, but no codes come up. I have had new platinum spark plugs put in, but to no avail. What can I do?
The light coming on suggests that it is about to stall, so it’s unstable at low speeds. Without having a diagnostic lead to go on you’re best to cover the basics, and replace the plug leads, perhaps the coils, check the PCV valve, and clean the throttle body.
